Edith Falls is located about 50 km north of Katherine in Nitmiluk National Park. It’s a favourite stop for both day visitors and campers, offering stunning scenery, peaceful bushland, and plenty of opportunities for swimming.
Swimming & Walking Options
Main Plunge Pool – Easily accessible from the car park, this large natural pool at the base of the falls is perfect for a refreshing swim.
Upper Pools Loop – A 2.5 km return walk (moderate grade) takes you up either side of the falls to several beautiful swimming pools above. The trail forms a loop, so you can return on the opposite side.
Sweetwater Pool – For the more adventurous, the track continues further upstream to Sweetwater Pool (about 8.5 km one way). This longer, more challenging hike rewards you with a quiet, less-visited swimming spot surrounded by nature.
Facilities
Shady picnic areas and BBQ facilities near the car park.
Seasonal kiosk with drinks and light refreshments.
Campground with powered and unpowered sites, hot showers, and toilets. (Bookings strongly recommended in peak season.)
Good to Know
Swimming is generally safe during the Dry Season (May–October) when rangers have cleared the area of crocodiles. Always check local signage before entering the water.
Bring plenty of water, a hat, and sturdy shoes if walking to the Upper Pools or Sweetwater.
Allow at least half a day to enjoy the falls and walks—or longer if you’re camping.
